A weathered scratched plaster wall, painted with the same materials a wall is made of — ochre, sienna, bone, charcoal — and then scratched and marked back into. The surface has a tactile quality, almost archaeological. Stains, faint graffiti, places where the plaster has come away to reveal an older layer underneath. I like the idea of a painting that feels like it's been there longer than the building it's hanging in.
