A thick textural surface — charcoal, charred brown, copper green, dull gold — with tangled root strands cutting through it like fine wire. The painting almost has weight. I built up the surface with layers of dense pigment, then carved back into it with a hard tool until the roots emerged. Reads as ruined, in a deliberate way. A piece for rooms that don't mind a little gravity.
