Concentric piles of pigment seen from directly above — turmeric at the heart, kumkum and chili spiraling out, indigo and green at the outer edges, brown grounding the whole thing. The composition is precise; the colours are anything but. They have the slightly textured, slightly uneven character of ground spices. I painted it square so the mandala has nowhere to escape. Reads as a portrait of a kitchen, in a way.
